Brad Butler (b. 1973) has an MA in Documentary Filmmaking from the Royal College of Art and a degree in Anthropology. In 2000 he won the BBC2 Documentary talent 2000 competition, as well as the National Student Television Award in 1998. Since 1998 he has been creating a body of work in collaboration with Karen Mirza that has moved between the documentary form and artists film. This ongoing dialogue about practice has manifested itself in artistic work presented in exhibitions, events and the cinema as well as the creation of the space no.w.here.

Together with Karen Mirza, the co-founder of no.w.here, he has been nominated for the transmediale Award 2010 for their film The Exception and the Rule.

Formed in 2004 by Karen Mirza and Brad Butler, no.w.here is an artist run space in London. Their work manifests itself in a multi-layered practice of filmmaking, drawing, installation, photography, performance, publishing and curating. Currently this takes the form of a project called The Museum of Non Participation.

Karen Mirza first studied painting at the Camberwell College of Art and continued through her MA in film and video at the Royal college of Art. Karen currently explores themes of ‘the imagination and the everyday’, ‘the psychoanalytical and the political’. Together with Brad Butler, Karen is co-founder of the artist platform no.w.here.
