Das ganze 20. Jahrhundert hindurch stellten Vordenker das Jahr 2010 als das leuchtende Beispiel einer Zukunft dar, die von technischem Fortschritt und sozialer Harmonie geprägt sein würde. Aber dann war 2010 das Heute und es wurde deutlich, dass die Weltgesellschaft weder die Utopie noch die Anti-Utopie ist, die üblicherweise in diesen Zukunftsfiktionen gezeichnet wurde. FUTURITY NOW! war eine Einladung neue Zukunftsmodelle zu bilden, bei denen es nicht darum ging, was die Zukunfts für uns bereit hält, sondern was wir für die Zukunft bereit halten.

Blickt man über die Szenarien der Erderwärmung, steigender Meeresspiegel und Ver-wüstung hinaus, dann lautet die entscheidende Frage nicht in erster Linie, wie dies zu verhindern sei. Vielmehr ist es notwendig, die strukturelle Veränderung im Verhältnis von Natur, Kultur und Technologie zu betrachten. Mit dem Festivalthema DEEP NORTH schaute die transmediale.09 im Jahr 20 nach der Wende auf den notwendigen globalen Kulturwandel, der aus dem Schmelzen der Polkappen erwachsen wird.

Graham Harwood has lived and worked with Matsuko Yokokoji (YoHa English translation 'aftermath') since 1994. YoHa's graphic vision, technical tinkering, has powered several celebrated collaborations establishing an international reputation for pioneering arts projects, including the first on-line commission from the Tate Gallery London and work in the permanent collections of the Pompidou Centre, ZKM and Manifesta07.

Matsuko Yokokoji co-founded the Mongrel group in 1995 with Graham Harwood. She graduated from Kuwazawa Design College in Tokyo in 1983.
