Karen Mirza (b. 1970) first studied painting at the Camberwell College of Art and continued through her MA in film and video at the Royal college of Art. Since graduating in 1997 she has created site specific and site conditioned works for galleries, public spaces and the cinema that foreground the sculptural qualities of projection and the architectonics of film and video.

Karen currently works on solo and collaborative projects utilising printmaking, photography and film to explore themes of ‘the imagination and the everyday’, ‘the psychoanalytical and the political’. Karen is the co-founder of the artist platform no.w.here and a transmediale Award 2010 nominee together with Brad Butler, no.w.here 's co-founder, for their film The Exception and the Rule.

Formed in 2004 by Karen Mirza and Brad Butler, no.w.here is an artist run space in London. Their work manifests itself in a multi-layered practice of filmmaking, drawing, installation, photography, performance, publishing and curating. Currently this takes the form of a project called The Museum of Non Participation.

Brad Butler has an MA in Documentary Filmmaking from the Royal College of Art and a degree in Anthropology. Since 1998 he has been creating a body of work in collaboration with Karen Mirza that has moved between the documentary form and artists film. Together they founded no.w.here in 2004.
