Thomas McIntosh (b. 1972, London, uk) studied architecture at Carleton University, Ottawa and at the Technical University in Berlin. He is the recipient of two awards from the Festival de Nouveau Cinéma et Nouveaux Médias de Montréal. He received an honourable mention from Ars Electronica and was nominated in 2004 for the Nam June Paik prize.

Since 1998 McIntosh has been collaborating with Emmanuel Madan as [The User] making work that has been exhibited worldwide. With Coincidence Engines they have been nominated for the transmediale Award 2010. He is based in Montréal.

[The User] is an art collective comprised of architect and artist Thomas McIntosh and composer and sound artist Emmanuel Madan. The duo takes its name from a term employed by our technocratic society, especially in design-related fields such as engineering, architecture and software development.

Emmanuel Madan

ca

Emmanuel Madan is a classically trained musician, composer and sound artist with a degree in based electroacoustic composition from the University of Montréal. Since 1998 Madan has been collaborating with Thomas McIntosh as [The User] making work that has been exhibited worldwide.
